Bensenville Youth Coalition Honored During American Education Week
The Bensenville Youth Coalition is proud to have been recognized as a “Friend of Education” during American Education Week by the Bensenville Education Association (BEA) and Bensenville School District 2 administration. This recognition highlights the Coalition’s commitment to supporting local students and fostering stronger community connections.
In May 2024, the Bensenville Youth Coalition launched the Wheels 4 Wisdom program, which provided refurbished bicycles and secure transportation to District 2 students living within 1.5 miles of school (and are therefore ineligible for bus services). To prepare the bikes, Fenton High School students collaborated with the Coalition to repair and ready them for safe use.
As part of Bike Safety Month, the Coalition also co-sponsored a bicycle safety workshop where eight students received bicycles, new bike locks, and helmets. The Wheels 4 Wisdom program, still in its early stages, not only promotes healthy outdoor activities but also helps BSD2 address student attendance by supporting those who could most benefit from transportation.
To commemorate this achievement, the Bensenville Youth Coalition’s name will be engraved on the Friends of Education plaque, proudly displayed at the Educational Administration Center (EAC) to honor their lasting contributions.
We extend our gratitude to the BEA and Bensenville School District 2 for this recognition. Special thanks go to the Coalition’s dedicated board members—Phyllis Schmidt, Chief Daniel Schulze, Ann Franz, Nancy Quinn, Sue Feddersen, Donna Block, Rick Kambic, Mark Drelicharz, and Lara Schwarz—for their tireless efforts in making a difference.
We look forward to continuing our mission of empowering youth and strengthening connections within the community.
